Established in 2011, Sadara is a joint venture developed by Saudi Aramco and The Dow Chemical Company. Sadara is a multi-billion-dollar world-scale chemical complex in Jubail Industrial City II in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. Comprised of 26 world-scale manufacturing units, the Sadara chemical complex is the world’s largest to be built in a single phase producing more than 3 million tons of plastics and chemicals annually and is the only chemical company in the Middle East to use refinery liquids, such as naphtha, as feedstock. SAMREF is a refinery complex which was formed for the development, construction, ownership and operation of a crude oil refining facilities in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. SAMREF is equally-owned by Saudi Aramco and Mobil Yanbu Refining Company Inc. (a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation). It commenced operations on November 15, 1984. SAMREF is one of the world’s largest single-train crude oil refineries, and one of the most sophisticated refineries in the Middle East, supplying products to a number of markets around the world.
The refinery is recognized as a safe and reliable supplier of a wide range of high- quality products in local and international markets. SAMREF processes approximately 400,000 barrels per day of Arabian crude, and approximately half of its output is consumed domestically, making SAMREF the main supplier of gasoline in the western region of the Kingdom.
